Destination Overview

Karnataka Holidays

Karnataka is the most varied state in the south — Western Ghats coffee country, palace heritage in Mysore, boulder-strewn Vijayanagara ruins at Hampi, wildlife at Bandipur–Nagarhole, and a slower stretch of Arabian Sea beaches from Gokarna to Karwar.

Coorg (Madikeri) and Chikmagalur are the two flagship coffee-country destinations — private plantation stays, walks between the bushes, silver-oak canopies and the best Arabica in India.

The Mysore–Bandipur–Ooty axis is our most-booked heritage-and-wildlife 5-nighter, pairing the Mysore Palace with jungle safaris at Bandipur and Nagarhole.

Hampi is one of Asia's great open-air heritage sites — best visited October–February with a boutique villa base in Hampi's Hospet or across the river.

Why Visit

Why plan Karnataka Holidays with us

Four reasons this destination keeps drawing our travellers back.

Coffee country stays

Working plantation homestays and luxury estate resorts with guided walks, private tastings and colonial-era bungalows.

Heritage + wildlife in one loop

Mysore Palace, Somnathpur, Bandipur tiger reserve and Nagarhole all sit within a comfortable 5-night driving circuit.

Ruins that feel unreal

Hampi's boulder landscape and 14th-century Vijayanagara temples make it India's most photogenic heritage site.

Quiet beaches

Gokarna's Om, Kudle and Paradise beaches plus Karwar's newer boutique resorts offer a slower alternative to Goa.

Best Time to Visit

When to visit Karnataka

Winter (best)

October – February

15–28 °C across most of the state, clearest skies, best safari sightings — the correct window for a first-time Karnataka trip.

Monsoon

June – September

Coorg and Chikmagalur are green and dramatic; plantation walks continue but heavy rain closes wildlife parks temporarily.

Summer

March – May

Coastal Karnataka is hot; hill destinations (Coorg, Chikmagalur, Sakleshpur) stay pleasant at 20–30 °C.

Travel Tips

Insider tips for Karnataka

Practical, locally-informed advice we give every traveller before departure.

Fly into Bangalore (BLR) for Coorg, Mysore and Bandipur; fly into Mangalore (IXE) for Chikmagalur and Gokarna to cut long drives.

Book Bandipur/Nagarhole jungle lodges 6–8 weeks in advance for weekend safari slots.

Hampi in summer (April–June) is punishing — restrict Hampi to October–February.

Coorg roads narrow through plantations; keep drives to daylight and prefer a local chauffeur.

Carry cash for temple donations, homestay tips and coffee-estate shop purchases.
